The following came about because of my grandchildren asking me questions like: Who was the first person on the planet and where did that person come from? I had to tell them that there were a lot of different ideas about that one and that it was sort of a mystery and that maybe they would be the ones to figure it out. The more I thought about it the more ridiculous it seemed that we are not in agreement about the most basic thing you could imagine - where we came from. I searched within my own understanding and the following is what I came up with. I share it with you
A Road Less Travelled
People believe a lot of things. That’s one of the attributes of human beings. We are capable of believing. A consensus of thought creates a temporary reality for a group until that reality is challenged and a new one takes its place. Less than 400 years ago the consensus was that the Planet Earth was the center of the universe with the sun and all the planets revolving around it.
Here is my reality: Each individual is a spark of potential - an individual spark within a collective whole called by us “universe”. Each individual has the potential of developing her/his own spark. With development comes greater understanding. Some individuals seem to be born with a spark that is already a light – but for the rest, development is possible and, in fact, the struggle for development is, in itself, enlightening. For those working to develop their own spark there emerges a path that can be traced and explained, thereby lighting the way for others.
Right now there are two strong central beliefs as to our origin: One: God created us Two: Humans evolved as a natural process from the earth.
Here is the way I see it: We, as a collective body of thought and energy have evolved the earth and ourselves. From this holistic perspective it is possible to develop my own potential and begin to realize my own power. My power comes not from my individual spark but from my willingness to expand my mind and to join with the power of the whole; a whole which operates in a benign fashion without regard to any separate idea/thought/belief about what it is. It is a miraculous support system that I can only know better as I am willing to expand my mind within the infinite boundless design of which I am an integral part.
By refusing to be caught up in dualistic thought, which only spins around within itself, and by looking within to expand my own spark of life, I join with those who have chosen a road less travelled. With each step I establish more clearly, for myself and for everyone, the state of being possible right here and now: A place of peace, beauty, love, cooperation, power, unity, infinite creation. This is our natural state of being, our true reality to which we are, at this moment, giving birth. Carol Sipper
